This post might hit hard for some and for others it won’t. I write it because as a practitioner of the occult it is something I have never forgotten how I obtained my freedom to practice WHAT I CHOOSE to practice. I am the daughter of a Korean War Vet who passed two months ago into the Summerland with the help of the ancestors and La Santisima Muerte. His father fought in WWI. Both my siblings served and I am proud of all of them.
We all have a family member that served regardless of what your spiritual path and country of origin, some made it back and some didn’t. Some made it back and had a support system to help them while others decided to disappear because they felt they would be a danger to their loved ones.
I always wonder how many of us actually stop to thank a vet for their service if they spot once to brighten their day or take a moment of silence at the table on Memorial Day to thank those who sacrificed themselves before passing the potato salad or taking a little bit of time to put a wreath down on a grave.
I know their will be wreaths laid at Arlington but what of those that aren’t there? We take it as another three-day weekend to go fishing, to the beach and have family gatherings and it seems that the true meaning of the day has been lost to us.
